The best mapping drone depends on the polygon
A 20-acre stockpile site and a 500-acre survey do not produce the same best aircraft. Draw the real operating area before deciding.
Five requirements that change the answer
- Required image detail: GSD depends on the selected camera and altitude.
- Coverage geometry: concavity, holes, exclusions, and launch distance change route demand.
- Overlap: frontlap and sidelap determine pass and trigger spacing.
- Airframe behavior: multirotor and fixed-wing turns produce different transitions and field constraints.
- Energy evidence: manufacturer maximum endurance is not a landing-reserve calculation.
Strong verified-field starting points

For a 500-acre mapping mission
Compare route coverage, achieved GSD, total distance, sorties, recharge cadence, and modeled reserve. A compact multirotor may be easier to deploy while a fixed-wing platform may reduce passes or field time; incomplete configuration evidence must remain visible in either case.
