“Has a thermal camera” is only the first constraint. Observation distance, route transitions, radiometric needs, wind, energy, and reserve determine operational fit.
Hard requirements first
- Thermal payload supported on the exact configuration
- Radiometric measurement when the job requires temperatures rather than imagery alone
- Observation geometry compatible with the camera mount and field of view
- Night capability where required
- Enough validated information to claim mission completion and reserve

Solar, utility, and structure inspections
Orbit radius, speed, required observations, altitude, camera aim, transitions, route time, energy demand, and sortie count must remain internally consistent. Failed terrain, road, or airspace services remain unresolved and never become a false “clear.”
